Climbing Caliraya at night is a different feat
It's a rainy Friday night when this impromptu ride happened. Since the skies are not pleasing towards UPLB, we decided to re-route and just climb Caliraya instead. We used to ride this on day time to enjoy the view of the Caliraya lake and Laguna lake in one place.
With proper helmets and lights on our bikes , we started to climb the pitch dark roads of the infamous 8KM uphill. We tried to keep the group intact for added visibility so whenever someone is being left far behind we try to regroup as much as possible.
Around 1-2 kilometers left, the group decided to have our dinner before reaching the top as the restaurants nearby the lake might be closed already.
By the time we finished our dinner, the rain started to pour lightly. Yet, we still tried to reach the top with hopes of a lake view at night. When all of a sudden, here comes the strong rains forcing us to make a stop and decide to just head home.
We took our time on the descent as the only lights you'll see are the front and back lights of each others bikes giving us a tensed but exciting descend. As we reach the bottom, rain started to fade allowing us to get home safely.
Climbing Caliraya at night is a different feat. Quiet and dark roads with fireflies to guide you, crickets singing loud, cows crossing and chests pumping like crazy.
